For the first time in my life, I have not followed this approach. I just
obtained my new Macbook M2 14-inch this past week. I went with the base
model and upgraded only the SSD to 2Tb, one level above the default.

It still adds up to more than I've paid for a new machine ever before.
But, I just couldn't justify going up to 8Tb and 96Gb RAM, which would
have taken me up to the $6K price level.

So, we'll see how things go with Logic Pro and Native Instruments. Also
the new Musescore is of interest, though I suspect it won't be quite the
resource hog the first two can be.

My thinking is that my M2 is really a transitional system. I expect I'll
look to trade up to the M3, once the M3 Max units are out, while there's
still some value in my M2 Max.

Trade-in value is actually another consideration. I goofed loading up my
2018 era Intel Mac Mini with all the RAM and SSD it could take. Yes, I
could probably get more than Apple gave me were I willing to sell here
and elsewhere online, but I doubt I'd get much more given the M2 Mini
starts at $549. Ah, well. Live and learn.
