Herb,
There is, or was a comparative effort here to get right to repair
legislation on the books, I do appreciate your intelligently illustrating
the differences.
speaking personally, tone is largely in the heart of those seeking a
tone. I am not the first member to suggest brad might provide wisdom
differently, with my not reading posts at the same time as others if that
resonates.
I do type slightly chastised though smiles.

A 2011 Mac would be upgradable, but later models around the 2014 forward were
constructed differently. We have a 2012 Mac that was upgraded to 16 Gigs Ram,
but there is no way I could upgrade my 2019 Mac. It’s decisions like this on
Apples part along with many others that have fueled the right to repare
arguments. However, something else, Lori, had already excepted our answers and
sounds like had moved on for now. I shouldn’t get involved like this, but I
feel like your email could be construed as an attack and wanting to start
something that shouldn’t be started. Yes, by writing this I’m just as guilty I
admit, but I think it needed to be said.

brad,
Do you work for apple?
I have an associate here in Toronto working with the centre for social
innovation.
They currently run an entire commerce company with a 2011 mac machine..and they
are not using voiceover.
If indeed a door to a new machine opens up, that will be marvelous.
However, with all due respect, I would be doubtful that an upgrade is not
possible when it is for units far older.
The best path forward is the one that lets her make uninformed decision from a
variety of sources.
as Donna has noted before, you can be a touch heavy handed with the
condescension.
Perhaps learning the two magic words "speaking personally," might be helpful?

I believe Lori has a 2014 Mac mini. I do not believe the RAM or storage can be

Getting a new M2 Mac mini would be her best option, and a big leap forward in
performance for her.

Where it can get tricky is that not all Apple Stores are able to handle Macs.
The new machine would definitely be your best bet. If you do end up upgrading
your machine, you will probably have to buy the Ram from Crucial and then
someone can install it for you. Bestbuy is also an option.

If you call my-apple, part of what they can do is set up a genus session with
your local apple store. Of course you can talk to them apple has a major
customer service hub in Austin Texas.
Still, if you anticipate a new machine soon, perhaps waiting makes more sense
in general. Unless the memory factors are so frustrating they impact getting
things done.
In that case improving the value of your current machine for sale or whatever
would make the memory factor worth considering.

we have an actual Apple store here in Fort Worth, Tx. I don’t think you can
just call and talk to somebody though. within the next few months it appears I
might have the opportunity to get a new Mac mini. if that chance comes up I’m
not going to waste it that’s for sure.

Speaking personally?
It depends on where you are in the world, but I would first call 1-800-my apple.
I would speak to support, share our apple id so they can know more details and
ask for my options.
Then perhaps report that here.
There are often loads of ways to upgrade a mac, or that used to be the case,
older machines can sometimes have an advantage.
cost may depend on things like warranty, but as an example in Toronto we have a
store called simply mac that specializes on apple computers, have been here
since the 1990's.
sometimes they do the upgrades for the experience, or connect you with free
geeks who do it as well.
Still, speaking personally, I would start with getting answers from apple
directly, just my thoughts of course.
