Then tell Apple. I don't use my iPad bear as much as my iPhone. But I hardly quibble over spending 5 seconds to enter a 4 digit passcode.

ET,

Your logic is faulty. Think about it. My iPad, which sits on my desk and is
barely used, has this ridiculous level of protection. My phone, on the other
hand, which I use constantly, is with me wherever I go and thus much more
likely to fall into nefarious hands, does not. Apple obviously set it up this
way because they knew we’d all go bonkers if we had to enter our passcode every
tine we unlocked our phones. So they’re willing to sacrifice security when
they know it would cost them customers, but if we’re talking about some device
that’s hardly used, well then, let’s pull out all the security stops. That
makes absolutely no sense. Of course I wouldn’t be happy if any of my
I-devices were hacked or stolen. Ultimately, though, it should be incumbent
upon the user to decide how much security they want to implement, and what
level of risk is appropriate to their needs and to the specific device. I
assure you that if I used my iPad for work or even for more substantive tasks,
I might—emphasize might—make different choices. But those choices should be
mine to make.
Cheers,
Donna

But let's flip the coin for a moment and consider your reaction should that

ET,

No one knows my usage patterns like I do. Yes, Apple allowing someone to
adjust this setting could result in problems for someone who isn’t careful.
But that isn’t the case here. I mostly use my phone. I only use my iPad
occasionally, and it never leaves my house. So yeah, I’d feel safe extending
that window to a week or two. Given that for 99% of users, the iPad is a
secondary device, I think every 24 hours is overkill.

Donna

Hi Karen,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don’t think that setting is
present in iPadOS. I looked for it, and googled it, but no luck. So I suspect
Brad, ET and Rajiv are right. While I understand the logic of the current
setup, I do wish Apple would allow users to configure it. Especially on an
iPad, it doesn’t seem that implausible that an iPad might sit dormant for more
than 24 hours. I’d like to be Able to extend it to a week or two.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi Donna,
No idea if this will help.
Still, there is, or was, a setting in security / privacy that would impact the
time factor?
Reason why I am unsure is that it is a mac os setting, which I would hope got
carried over to IOS?
Kare

Hi Donna. From my experience, the security settings on iOS require users to
input their passcode when a device has been dormant for 24 hours or more.
Others may have additional input. Thank you. RAjiv

Hi all,

If I don’t log into my iPad for a couple of days, it requires me to enter my
passcode rather than using Touch ID. This is kind of annoying, because I don’t
use my iPad as often. Is there some way, other than completely disabling my
passcode to extend the time before I am required to enter it?
Thanks,
Donna
