What do you mean by "constant need to enter passcode"?
I only enter my passcode once a day on my ipad, face id gets me in 100% of the
time on my ipad pro, and on my ipad air it has touch id.

Subject: Re: The Apple Danger Zone
It’s clearly a whole bunch of trade-offs. In general, I like the steps Apple
takes to safeguard user privacy. But as Peter points out, that can have some
drawbacks. Personally, I would rather have the measures in place to protect my
privacy. But I also think Apple needs to leave choices about where and when
privacy is important up to the user. While it is true that someone could break
into my house, steel my iPad, and have access to my info, where I live, that is
a very unlikely scenario. I’m also not talking about completely removing the
passcode. All I’m asking is that I be able to use touch to unlock it, without
the constant need for passcode entry. That’s hardly a huge security breech.
Cheers,
Donna

Good evening everyone,
Something that we don't hear about from Apple is when their security
measures resulted in tragety for some of their customers. If I have an accident
and can't speak for myself but had an iPhone I would want Police and EMS to
have access to my personal information to render medical assistance and to
contact next of kin. We hear from Apple about the lives their technologies
saved but not about those that died because those rendering aid were unable to
access their patient's vital medical information due to their patient's Apple
Account being locked. This is a quite plausible scenario something all
technology developers must consider particularly when it comes to
health-related apps. Praise God we don't have this issue with Android Devices.

Subject: Re: iPad constantly asking for my passcode
ET,
Your logic is faulty. Think about it. My iPad, which sits on my desk and is
barely used, has this ridiculous level of protection. My phone, on the other
hand, which I use constantly, is with me wherever I go and thus much more
likely to fall into nefarious hands, does not. Apple obviously set it up this
way because they knew we’d all go bonkers if we had to enter our passcode every
tine we unlocked our phones. So they’re willing to sacrifice security when
they know it would cost them customers, but if we’re talking about some device
that’s hardly used, well then, let’s pull out all the security stops. That
makes absolutely no sense. Of course I wouldn’t be happy if any of my
I-devices were hacked or stolen. Ultimately, though, it should be incumbent
upon the user to decide how much security they want to implement, and what
level of risk is appropriate to their needs and to the specific device. I
assure you that if I used my iPad for work or even for more substantive tasks,
I might—emphasize might—make different choices. But those choices should be
mine to make.
Cheers,
Donna

ET,
No one knows my usage patterns like I do. Yes, Apple allowing someone to
adjust this setting could result in problems for someone who isn’t careful.
But that isn’t the case here. I mostly use my phone. I only use my iPad
occasionally, and it never leaves my house. So yeah, I’d feel safe extending
that window to a week or two. Given that for 99% of users, the iPad is a
secondary device, I think every 24 hours is overkill.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don’t think that setting is present
in iPadOS. I looked for it, and googled it, but no luck. So I suspect Brad,
ET and Rajiv are right. While I understand the logic of the current setup, I do
wish Apple would allow users to configure it. Especially on an iPad, it doesn’t
seem that implausible that an iPad might sit dormant for more than 24 hours.
I’d like to be Able to extend it to a week or two.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi Donna,
No idea if this will help.
Still, there is, or was, a setting in security / privacy that would impact the
time factor?
Reason why I am unsure is that it is a mac os setting, which I would hope got
carried over to IOS?

Hi Donna. From my experience, the security settings on iOS
require users to input their passcode when a device has been
dormant for 24 hours or more. Others may have additional input.

Hi all,
If I don’t log into my iPad for a couple of days, it requires me to enter my
passcode rather than using Touch ID. This is kind of annoying, because I don’t
use my iPad as often. Is there some way, other than completely disabling my
passcode to extend the time before I am required to enter it?
Thanks,
Donna
