Hi Bryan:
I tried following your instructions on a 3G iPad with no issues.  The swiping 
method worked fine, though as Ester said, touching and flicking work better 
with the iPad.  
I don't think you're doing anything wrong, though, as you're an experienced 
mac/iPhone user.  Could it be that there's some kind of glitch with your 
particular iPad?
I wish I could offer some useful tips/tricks, but I'm kind of lost as to why 
you're having these issues at this point.  I'll do some more testing with my 
Dad's 3G iPad and see whether I can reproduce some of these problems.
