Dear Carolyn,

I've just checked this in "preferences" in Mail. Thank you for pointing it out. 
I thought it was relevant to RAy's question relating to threads but now that 
you have asked, I'm not sure it is so apologies for confusion or ignorance. I 
don't really know what "buddy status" is and what is supposed to do in Mail. I 
thought it had something to do with the status of the message/thread. Once 
again, I hope I did not confuse matters for anyone else.
