It sounds as though you are doing everything the right way.

What I can add is that Microsoft is no longer actively supporting XP--even the 
XP enterprise validation tool no longer works.  Microsoft really wants to get 
away from XP and, I might add, with good reason--not the least of which being 
its security flaws.

You may have to face the fact that Windows 7 is the new starting point.  Please 
know that I do not say this definitely but merely as an opinion.

I am a TechNet subscriber and I looked on the Microsoft servers for you and 
even there XP is a diminishing star.

Is there a reason why you resist installing Windows 7?

It may be best to reply off-list as I am not certain if others will benefit 
from our dialog from this point on.

Generally speaking, Windows 7 is what I suggest everyone install with Boot Camp.
