I've never been able to do that on I O S, nor with the sapi versions on
Windows, so I don't think that's an Apple problem per sey. I think it's
more the nature of the beast in the voices themselves.

I hope Apple didn't rush implementing the voices too soon. But it certainly
feels that way.
If you use any of the Nuances voices, Samantha, Jill, Tom, etc, you cannot
change pitch or intonation.
Yes, I'm not kidding, you cannot change the pitch or the intonation for
any of the Nuance voices.
I've tried and thought for a moment that I had too much beer, but no,
Samantha kept talking with the same pitch and intonation, no change.
How disappointing.
