Hello, Gall, I don't know why VO isn't reading out what you are writing, especially if you have changed the typing setting. Have you emailed apple accessibility about this?
Here is a link that describes how to select and edit text. Once you read it, I suggest you open text edit and practice. http://www.apple.com/voiceover/info/guide/_1128.html Either navigate the page via headings, vo-command-h, or use vo-f to find selecting text. Good luck to you. I've been using mac and voiceover for 2 Months now and finding it very enjoyable. Is it better than window-eyes, *shrugs* not sure. It is another avenue of accessibility. :) Traci ----- Original Message ----- From: Red.Falcon To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, October 09, 2011 7:40 AM Subject: Re: Problems with VO Hi Rahul! Well unfortunately there is no capture solution on the Mac! Can you use audio alternatives! And can you tell us if your using Lion or SL! Also there is a problem with some text fields try typing a letter then arrow away and back and see if you then can type the rest or interact with the field and see if that helps! However, I have found that most of my questions are answered at least eventually. So I would encourage you to hang in there and keep plugging away at this new frontier. First of all can you tell us where in Safari you are trying to insert text? I am only able to answer just one of your other questions. In order to be able to highlight text, you must first interact with the text. After doing so, you are then free to use all of the standard editing keyboard commands to manipulate the text in question. And, To be honest, my experience so far has been very, very frustrating. Some of the problems that I've faced so far are: 1. VoiceOver doesn't read anything as I type, so I can't use it for sending messages and emails. It reads every character as I type on TextEdit, but it doesn't read anything when I type on Safari. I've changed the typing echo to 'characters and words', but it's still not reading anything. 2. I don't know how to select anything. How can I select something and paste it somewhere else? 3. VoiceOver doesn't read CAPTCHAs. There is an app which does this for visually impaired people who use Firefox, but VO doesn't work with Firefox. So, in general, I am not as comfortable with VO as I am with JAWS. The worst part is that I've posted these questions so many times, but no one has ever been able to give a satisfactory reply. I really find it hard to understand how people say that they are far happier with VO than they were with JAWS. I mean, how can you enjoy using a screen reader which cannot even perform some of the most basic functions? Please share your views on this matter.
