google mail is a pain in the neck. I've had this issue. the only way around this, even when you disable trash to google server and it still does this, is to log into google mail on the website and manually delete. please be extremely careful as any important emails from saved, drafts, etc can accidentally be deleted.
I'm leaving gogle soon as I can't stand the constant faffing. the new pain in the neck is flagged mail items to "Important" folder where nothing needs to go, instead it creates spurios amounts of junk and backups of mail outgoing.
