Who will you be joining? I may do the same myself if I could get a good
recommendation as to what provider has the same/similar qualities as gmail.
The reason I joined them in the first place was because I got such a huge
mailbox, which I never maxed out, and almost never got any spam from them.
I think I got maybe 5 or so spam mail's during the time that I've been with
them as opposed to yahoo and hotmail where I got loads of them.

google mail is a pain in the neck. I've had this issue.
the only way around this, even when you disable trash to google server and it
still does this, is to log into google mail on the website and manually delete.
please be extremely careful as any important emails from saved, drafts, etc can
accidentally be deleted.
I'm leaving gogle soon as I can't stand the constant faffing.
the new pain in the neck is flagged mail items to "Important" folder where
nothing needs to go, instead it creates spurios amounts of junk and backups of
mail outgoing.

If you're going with Imap, how do you get your messages to actually delete
themselves? When I went that route, it seemed that no matter how much help I
got, nothing seemed to work, and I could tell it to delete them, and they
wouldn't move to the trash, and gmail was downloading months worth of mail,
plus my most recent messages, so I was literally getting over 1000 messages
that would regurgitate whenever I I would download my mail again causing my
system to slow down and give me constant busy signals.

dpending on whether you are in classic mode or the more modern layout,
there may be a save settings button inside of google mail's settings page you
need to hit.
I go with IMAP here as I have several devices I can check through. its
definitely the best setup for my iphone.

I have been as well, so glad to know I'm not the only one. Mine has
never wanted to download them, and even wants me to varify some certificate on

Did yours ever ask you to do that? Maybe we can chat off list.
