Hi,

When connected with Ethernet, yes. You just don't have the ability to
connect to a wireless network with VoiceOver

Also, since the Macbook air doesn't have an Ethernet port standard, you'll
have to shell out $29 for their adaptor.

I appreciate the information on this. just in case I have to deal with an
iMac in the office mum uses for her ork. as it's a new iMac it doesn't ship
with recovery media for reflashing, etc.

we have both wireless and wired ethernet throughout so shouldn't be a
problem. my question is, with a cable ethernet connection, is it still
accessible to perform a full rebuild of the OS and apps?

Hi,

Unfortunately, your machine won't be connected to Wifi by default when you
boot the recovery partician. To add to the unfortunate news, VoiceOver is
unable to access the Wifi menu at the top right of the menubar so you can
connect to a network. The only way for a visually impaired person to
reinstall using recovery mode is through an ethernet cable. I've contacted
apple about this countless times, and the most recent response I've gotten
is that they're investigating a possible fix. They had no idea this couldn't
even be done with VoiceOver.

Subject: verifying/connecting mba to wifi in recovery mode

Hi everyone, I want to completely reinstall lion on my macbook air that came
preinstalled with it. I turned off disk encryption and was able to open the
recovery partition while booting by pressing command+r. The help document
states though that, ifyou want to reinstall, you have to be connected to the
internet. I am not sure if the computer is connected or how i can connect
because i cant read the status menu (command+2x m). I know my laptop is
normally connected to wifi but am not sure if these settings are stored on
the recovery disk as well. How can i check if the machine is connected and
connect it manually if it is not/ Or is it not needed after all if you just
want a standard reinstall?
Thanks in advance for any information,
Greetings, Anouk,
