Hi Steve,

I can't actually check what happens with an outstanding delivery, because I
don't have an account or order with the Tassimo site. You may be correct that
this, rather than shopping cart behavior, is the key issue. So it's possible
that my comments are not relevant to Christine's buying experience, but this
was the only way I could help assess possible accessibility issues in making
purchases -- I've never used that web site before.

Glad to hear that you found the discussion in the post useful, anyway. Item
chooser menu is a really useful tool that has been around since the earliest
versions of VoiceOver. When you quickly type the letters of word or part of a
word, that's used to filter the results that show up. You can use the delete
key to start again, if you want to try out typing a different search
combination. And you can type search terms for "link" or "button" to further
refine your search results. That's what I did by first quickly typing the
letters for "just" and then quickly typing the letters for "but" -- which was a
short way of further filtering the item chooser matched results for "buttons".
Once you navigate to an item chooser menu item with your arrow keys, you select
it with either VO-Space or by pressing "Return". It's important to realize
that using item chooser menu only lets you navigate within an application, web
page, etc. If there's a link or button you still have to issue a VO-Space or
click to activate it. Also, in web pages most people will be using QuickNav
for easier navigation with arrow keys and rotor, so the equivalent of VO-Space
to activate will be simultaneously pressing the up and down arrow keys.
However, the other corresponding issue for very new VoiceOver users is
remembering whether QuickNav is turned on or off. The most common answers to
new user questions, when VoiceOver doesn't appear to be behaving as you expect,
are: (1) did you remember to interact? (operations and contextual menu content
depend on context of usage -- so if you're in a table and you didn't interact,
you won't be able to sort columns, for instance) and (2) do you still have
QuickNav turned on? (when a "classic" VoiceOver command doesn't appear to be
working as expected).

Hope you're enjoying your Mac.

Cheers,

Esther
