Thank you so much! The one thing I hadn't tried was turning cursor tracking 
off. The simulated mouse click didn't work for me, but clicking with the 
trackpad did.

The problem with Command-tab has been around for a while now. It seems to 
happen when you've got Keyboard Shortcuts selected in System Preferences. You 
can still use the Application Selector, though.
