When I had my IPhone 4, and later my 4S, I don't recall ever once seeing
these problems. Ever since I got my IPhone 5 however they've been happening
non-stop. I was curious if anyone else with a 5 has seen any of these
issues. Remember, if you have anything other than a 5, then most likely,
these things probably aren't going to happen for you.
1. Any time that I need to make an inapp purchase, it'll ask for my ITunes
password. I put it in, then double tap on the OK button. At this point, it
returns me to the last screen which had focus where I elected to make the
inapp payment. This isn't just one particular app. I'm seeing this with
just about every app which has inapp abilities. I'm seeing this both when
making the purchases, as well as when restoring them. Turning off Wifi
doesn't help. I wondered if it had to do with not being able to connect to
the ITunes store... see next problem below... Apparently that isn't the case
though, I don't think. Eventually, after tinkering with it open/closing the
app from the app switcher, plugging and unplugging from my macbook with the
lightning cable, totally powerring off the phone, and repower cycling,
resetting the springboard by quintupple pressing the sleep button, even warm
resetting by holding down home and sleep... eventually, after maybe
literally 5 or 10 tries, and me being very persistent, it finally will take,
but it takes an ungodly! amount of effort to make it succeed. Obviously,
being it's an inapp purchase, it's not like I can use ITunes on my macbook
and force it through, or else I would.
2. A lot of times, I'll open an app, even one that doesn't need to connect
in the first place, and I'll get an error that says cannot connect to the
ITunes store, and a retry button or try later. If I hit retry, it usually
then goes through on that second attempt. But why on earth in the first
place is it trying to connect to start with? I'm seeing this mainly in the
Rdio app, although I'm finding it in a few others as well, though I can't
remember exactly which ones. Yes, I do have the inapp purchase subscription
monthly for the $14 to Rdio. That I subscribed to and got set up before
getting my 5 though, so once I got the 5, installed it, and logged in, my
subscription automatically came down. Again, I say: this isn't just Rdio
having that message pop up, although that is one of the main apps that's
doing it.
3. I'm finally finding that sometimes if my phone glitches, and I do! have
to warm reset with my home+sleep buttons, not only does it disable my
tripple click home, but my screen brighhtness jumps from about 80 percent
down to like 10% which I think is the default when you first turn the phone
on for the very first time which to say the least is almost unreadable as
the screen is so dark. I don't have enough vision to see it but sometimes I
have a friend who is sighted who likes to play with my handset which I don't
have an issue with, as I totally trust her. Plus, I'm always right there
when she's using it. I almost wonder if you don't hold the two buttons in
long enough, does it then do a full reset. Like, not a factory cold reset,
but more just resetting all your settings. It looks like that may be what
is happening, as the times that I do have this problem, I don't think I'm
holding the buttons in quite as long as when it works. I know if you just
hit them together then release immediately it makes a screen snapshot. I'm
holding longer than that, but as soon as the screen goes off, I'm letting
go. I'm wonderring if I should keep holding until the apple logo comes up
on the screen, as it seems like if I do that, I don't have that problem.
3. Finally, I've tried buying some things from ITunes. Even though they
appear to be downloading, the never appear in my more tab under downloads,
and yet when I look at my purchase history, they definitely show up. When I
try to download them however they again look like they're downloading as the
download all button gets dimmed, but then when I open the music app, go to
the artists tab, then go down in the table index to find them, it isn't
there. Not even after trying to redownload from my history. If I do this
on my mac itself, I don't have this problem. This is happening both on
LTE/4G as well as on wifi. My wifi signal is 3 of 3 bars, and on LTE/4G, I
have excellent coverage in my area, and on the voice side, I have usually
between 2 to 3 of 5 bars, so it's not like this is a signal thing crapping
things out. I have even reset this thing to factory settings, and even
that! isn't fixing these problems.
This is a white IPhone 5 through AT&T wireless, 64GB. I O S 6.0.2. Any
thoughts?
Chris.
