If you're just trying to play games, I wonder if Crossover Games might be more up your ally. You can download a free trial. I played with it a bit and the setup UI seems accessible but I don't actually have any Windows games to install into it to test things out.

I know, but I can't see spending $40 on something I can use, albeit less
independently, for free. I do like my vm, though, it's so much easier than
rebooting just to play a game. Well, if there's a trial, I'll give it a shot
and see how I like it. Wow, I think that's the most disjointed email I've ever
written!

Hi Alex.
I'd try the 30 day trial of VMware fusion.
It's really nice.

Don't bother trying it on the mac, it is totally inaccessible. I had to
configure things in Windows (on bootcamp), then export the finished vm, copy it
over to the mac partition, and import it. Now I just open the .vbox file and it
works. I'll have a sighted person give me a hand with that host keys option,
thanks for the tip. The volume slider in windows does absolutely nothing, and
at a guess, I'd say the mac is twice as loud as windows even when windows is at
100% volume.

Hi Alex.
I am not sure about virtual box.
I wasn't able to use it when i tried it last, i use vmware fusion.
I will try this today however.
The volume control, i think within windows 7, just change the volume slider
with in windows.
It still will be a little lower however.
Under the preferences in virtual box, you should see mac host shortcuts.
Disable these and your f keys should work as well.

Hi all,
I just set up win7 in a vm through Virtualbox, and am having some odd problems.

First, my audio is very low, and the volume control seems to do nothing. The
mac's volume is pretty loud, so I don't want to turn it up anymore. Is there
anything I can do? Forums suggest an update to the Realtech drivers, but I
don't see realtech in my sound devices.

Second, and more relevant to this list, some keys still have an effect even when I should
be in "windows only" mode. Specifically, anything with f12 or control with
arrows brings up that pointless dashboard. and some vo commands still get issued. For
instance, I hit alt-f to go to the file menu, but that triggered my vo keyboard action to
find the next form field. It is as though the mac is not letting go of the keyboard
correctly. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks for any help on either of these problems.

Have a great day,
