Hello Anne,
I'm guessing that the only real issues would be around getting enough
evenly distributed light. Which I'm waiting for a light box frame to be
made. As with scanner scanning there's the problem of holding the print
material flat against the scanner glass. After all, we only need 300
Dots Per Inch for effective O C R.
I'm hoping to have 1 key scan and OCR. Also to export to Pages etc.
Until I open the app I won't know <smiles>.

Hello Gena,
I don't think you'll get a good enough image from an i-device to use with
FineReader on the Mac.
I use a Canon Lide 110 portable flatbed scanner with my Mac and ABBYY
FineReader does a good job. However, don't expect all the features of
FineReader for Windows. The Mac version is an express version and has no
preferences.
I can't personally compare it to the Windows version as I've never used Windows
at all, but I know that many people are disappointed by the lack of automation
when scanning on the Mac.
The OCR engine for Prizmo is Prizmo's own, as far as I know. There is a Prizmo
aplication for Mac, too, but it's much messier to use than FineReader.
Cheers,
Anne

Hello Anne,
I guess it depends upon the volume you want to O C R. Using desk-top
applications gives more power and options. Fine Reader is also very good. I
can't remember which O C R engine is used by Prizmo. It may be Fine Reader at
the back end.
But I was just asking as I have a new Mac and when I heard Fine Reader was
reduced in price. I purchased it but intend upon trying it with a iDevice
before I look at buying a dedicated scanner / camera. I use Fine Reader via
Kurzweil and as a stand alone program on Windows and hoping Fine Reader will
make my switch that bit easier.
I can't imagine a portable device managing several scanned books with their
images.
