HI Brian,

Yes, ReadKit let's you just arrow down through the list of articles and marks
them as read once they've been selected. In this sense it's very similar to
NewsRack. There's a table for your folders and feeds, and then to the right of
it is the table of articles, and then to the right of that is an HTML area
where the article is displayed. So once on the table of articles, with QuickNav
off, you can just arrow down through the articles. It even reads you the first
few sentences after the title as you're arrowing through. I find this really
useful. There's also a mark all as read button you can press to mark all
articles in the list as read.

Sounds like you understand how it works. But just to make sure you're clear,
I'll spell it out in a bit of detail. Feed Wrangler is an RSS engine. It
provides the collation of feeds and syncing capability behind the scenes, and
lets other developers use these services with their apps. To use this service,
however, you have to pay the $18.99 yearly subscription fee. IN addition and as
a freeby, Feed Wrangler provides a free web app and a free iOS app for you to
use its service.

ReadKit is an RSS client for the Mac. It supports a whole range of RSS engines
which can sync your RSS fees behind the scenes. One of these is Feed Wrangler.
ReadKit cost me about 5.49AUD in the Mac App Store. I use it with Feed Wrangler
as I said, but you could use one of their other syncing services if you wanted,
but I can't tell you how well any of them work.

I too loved NewsRack. I'm sad it's come to nothing post Google Reader, but I
probably got my money's worth in the end. ReadKit with Feed Wrangler isn't as
clean and easy to use as NewsRack was with Google Reader, but it's fairly
close. I'd love to continue using NewsRack, but the inability to sync with my
iPhone is a deal breaker.

I mentioned it in the last email but it's so good I'll mention it again: I
think you'll really like ReadKit's Readability mode which allows you to view
the full text of the article without clicking on any links or anything. Very
useful.

Oh, and just again, I'll mention the one problem I have with ReadKit. That is
the inability to manage your folders and feeds. I think this is a Feed Wrangler
limitation and I've heard they're intending to change this. However, for now,
to add feeds to folders etcetera you need to use Feed Wrangler's web app. This
is in stark contrast with NewsRack and Google Reader where you could so easily
manage all your feeds and folders through NewsRack's interface.

Cheers,
Nic
