Well, I can't even tell if VO is on, since I toggled a few times hoping it would return to normal before I asked the list what I should do. I can't get the system preferences suggestion to work either way. Hopefully a sighted family member will come home soon. Oh, and as to shutting down, I'd really rather not do a hard shut down and pressing the power button does not work. Thanks anyway all.
