Hi, The iCloud web-site is considerably more user friendly than it was in the beginning of iCloud. Mail is perfectly readable and manageable. As mentioned, there are some occasions when connected to some WiFi networks where most ports related to eMail are blocked and only web interfaces are available, so, having a usable web-interface is needed. Like Gmail, iCloud is also an iMap style of mail so much preferred for me. If you have an Apple ID, you likely already have access to iCloud eMail services, you simply need to turn them on in your iCloud pane of System Prefs.
