Apologies for the poor formatting.
There is no message sent to console. As soon as I hit Enter after
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor
its game over. The GUI screen is there. The console window (terminal) is
there. I see the commands I have typed, but the computer is frozen. After
turning it off and rebooting, an examination of the System Log files shows
nothing amiss and the wireless card works fine in sta mode. Note that
pre-up wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
is in the /etc/network/interfaces file, which presumably creates the VAP
on start up.
