New description:

 I got an Acer laptop with (lspci):
 {{{
 0000:00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.: Unknown
 device 001a (rev 01)
 }}}
 and kernel linux-2.6.15.1

 My problem is that when i boot Gentoo after a Windows session the madwifi
 driver works very well
 but if i directly boot Gentoo (which is in 99% of case) the modules are
 regulary loaded, but i got this from dmesg:
 {{{
 ath_hal: 0.9.16.13 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212, RF5111, RF5112, RF2413,
 RF5413, DFS)
 wlan: 0.8.4.2 (svn 1440)
 ath_rate_sample: 1.2 (svn 1440)
 ath_pci: 0.9.4.5 (svn 1440)
 ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:0b.0[A] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
 wifi%d: unable to attach hardware: 'Hardware revision not supported' (HAL
 status 13)
 ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:0b.0 disabled
 }}}
 I don't know how to solve this problem

Comment:

 From a short discussion on IRC:
 {{{
 #!blockquote
 <FaSe> if i set the bios to boot as first the net and then i escape it
 then the wireless works well
 <FaSe> or if i boot windows first
 <FaSe> it's like the chip is sleeping
 }}}
 That reminds me about an issue I've seen with DP83815/83816 chips in
 Mikrotik's RB230 and some WRAP boards: the Bios doesn't enable these
 network interfaces, which causes problems when a driver tries to
 initialize them.

 Note to self: try to import a patch from Donald Becker's scan_pci stuff to
 check if the found devices have been enabled or not and provide that as
 patch for testing. It could be that this solves this issue, at least it
 would be worth a try.
