Comment:

 Nice troubleshooting, jarviksin.  The root cause of your problem was
 definitely open vs shared key authentication.  Your debug log reported:

 Jun 11 23:17:49 localhost kernel: ath0: [00:0d:88:98:21:30] recv auth
 frame with algorithm 0 seq 2
 Jun 11 23:17:49 localhost kernel: ath0: [00:0d:88:98:21:30] open auth
 failed (reason 13)

 Error 13 means the AP does not support "open" authentication.

 If you want madwifi to use shared key auth, add a command "iwpriv ath0
 authmode 2" line to your startup script.  But don't do that: open
 authentication is better.
