As stated in the comments above, r1497 reverted the patch and a final
solution has not yet been found. That's the reason why the
[wiki:Releases/0.9.1#Knownissues release notes] mentions this ticket in
the "known issues" section and state that changing the MAC address is not
properly working at this time.
