unfortunately there is nothing in the logs after I reboot (the
thing is completely hosed, no sysrq).

So it's sharing in irq with the soundcard (CMI8738-MC6)
which isn't doing much on my system.
Anything else I can try? Would a watchdog help? I could
hook up a serial console if you think it can help.
