#1902: broken boot from kernel 2.6.24.4 after installing madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007

Dearest madwifi support:
After following
http: //www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-5007eg-with-madwifi-
on-i386-platform.html
to get what I thought was an atheros 5007eg chipset wireless working, I
re-booted and found the boot process itself to be broken!
Luckily, GRUB gives me the option to boot the previous kernel 2.6.23.1 and
this works.
However, now the soundcard does not work, which was working under the
previous kernel...
Well, the wireless is now recognized as AR5006EG, but it is not able to
connect to an active access point. Here is the output from iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:""
Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated

Encryption key:off
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
My questions are:
(1) how to undo the "damage" done?
and
(2) which madwifi version to use?
Much appreciated,
Jordan
P.S. I un-installed/re-installed kernel 2.6.24.4 thinking it would fix my
boot-problem with that kernel, but no such luck!
P.S.S. I apologize for not being more technical-verbose with this problem,
but I am swimming in the deep-end of the pool here, just after learning
how to swim...
