#1971: Problem with promiscuous mode

This is what I do:
# modprobe ath_pci autocreate=none
# wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode monitor
# iwconfig ath0 channel 11
# ifconfig ath0 up
# wireshark
and then I set wireshark to capture packets in promiscuous mode
on the interface ath0.
After I've captured packets for a while, I then stop and then
through Preferences, I set the WEP key and decrypt the traffic.
How do I tell which version of Madwifi is being used? I don't
think lsmod gives me that information.
The computer being sniffed and the computer doing the sniffing
are about two feet from each other and the access point is
less than 10 feet away from both. They are all in the same room.
