It appears you're required to put -debug closer to the front of the options
or change how your app is redirecting output.

I tried it as the first and last arg in the arg string. It seems to have failed
in both positions.

Also, switching to the 6.2.7 binaries failed as well, so I do not know a way to
get ImageMagick to accept the -debug arg.

Oddly enough, it always complains about another arg other than -debug.

You're better off putting all the images you're working on in a single
directory and executing 'composite -debug' w/o the long paths.

But I am certainly not going to rewrite the Gallery application.

Hosting providers other than 1&1 run Gallery + ImageMagick without a problem. 1&1 tech support was unable to find the source of the trouble. They too say that current binaries of ImageMagick run well from the command line.

Also, best make these accessible to the Web and post all this info back
to the list, as my list postings are failing to go through right now.

I am posting via gmane.org which is an NNTP interface to the list. I am sending
to you via email and to gmane.org via NNTP. So I hope that has it covered well
enough.

Also a 'uname -a' from your system will be useful too.

From an SSH connection to our server, uname -a returns:
Linux infong531 2.6.16.33-20070131a-areca-filemon-3ware-e1000 #1 SMP Wed Jan 31
02:48:22 CET 2007 i686 unknown

But from the phpinfo() function it shows up as:
Linux infong 2.4 #1 SMP Tue May 23 17:47:33 CEST 2006 i686 unknown

So I suspect the former is maybe the server where the DASD resides, and the latter is the HTTP front-end. (They, if I am correct, route SSH traffic to one box, and HTTP to another... both with the same hostname.)
