I know :-) The offer, coming from you, is very tempting, but the sad truth
is that we really don't have any extra resources to spend on this,
time-wise. The advantage of SWIG is that it used to work and it shouldn't
be very difficult to make it work again (it just suffers from bit rot).
Whereas Boost.Python definitely has some advantages compared to it (SWIG
has some too, of course...) we'd need to learn it and actually do whatever
is necessary to start using it and this is simply not going to happen in
near future unless more people join the team.

I have some bad news for you: to be honest, Mahogany is not a decent
newsreader and although it aims to become one at version 2.0, we're still
quite far from 1.0 yet. In other words, the current focus is solely on the
mail part. News support sort of works (last time I tried it, anyhow) but I
certainly don't recommend using it as a primary newsreader. As usual, the
problem is not that we don't want to make it a great newsreader as well,
but that we have to choose priorities carefully considering the limited
resources we have.

 Best regards,
VZ
