I know :-) The offer, coming from you, is very tempting, but the sad truth is that we really don't have any extra resources to spend on this, time-wise. The advantage of SWIG is that it used to work and it shouldn't be very difficult to make it work again (it just suffers from bit rot). Whereas Boost.Python definitely has some advantages compared to it (SWIG has some too, of course...) we'd need to learn it and actually do whatever is necessary to start using it and this is simply not going to happen in near future unless more people join the team. In other words, the current focus is solely on the mail part. News support sort of works (last time I tried it, anyhow) but I certainly don't recommend using it as a primary newsreader. As usual, the problem is not that we don't want to make it a great newsreader as well, but that we have to choose priorities carefully considering the limited resources we have.
