it's the drop-down list on the far right hand side of the filter rules dialog
box. It's the one that specifies what you match on. I just paid closer
attention and this is what I found:

click edit->filter rules...
you then see the list of all your filters
pick a filter and click edit
now, click "more" and add an additional filter rule.
single click the far right hand side drop-down selection box (the one for
selecting which part of the message you are matching on).
Hit return

At that point, I get additional empty filter rules added and the drop-down
selection box stays up. If you like, we can run a VNC session and I will show
you what I'm seeing.

OK. I'll take the hint and activate Emacs as my editor. this might be the time
to learn about the Emacs as server model.

that was it! If you do not specify the sound file, it does that horrible ugly
ghastly default single bit toggling sound from a PC speaker. How the hell that
got set I'll never know but now it's off and I don't have to hear it again.

extremely. The end result is that I keep many of my applications minimized so I
don't need to see them flip up-and-down.

I'm just grateful to finally find an e-mail client that behaves almost exactly
the way I think it should. Whether this is a good thing is still up for debate
but at least I don't have to suffer through Eudora.

Next thing I need to try is:

Figure out how to move the sent mailbox to IMAP
experiment with, and report bugs on multiple identities ;-)
convince you to move the IMAP INBOX to the very first item in the IMAP server
list of mailboxes.
Figure out how to drive this mail client from NaturallySpeaking without losing
tons of mail or sending out partially completed messages with embarrassing
misrecognitions. (Yes, that has happened to me with Eudora)
