 The autocollection may be very slow, especially if your disk is slow (e.g.
NFS mounted) or if you have a lot of addresses in your address book. Please
try disabling it ("Addresses" page of the preferences dialog) and see if it
was indeed the culprit.

 No, it's purely local -- but due to very inefficient address book format
(to be fair, it was never meant to hold many addresses) it can still be
slow.

 If you have top, could you look at:

1. how much CPU time does M take during this delay?

2. if its working set is stable or continues to grow?
