Hello,

now the count of untranslated and fuzzy translation is down to less than 100.
You find the files (M.mo and M.po (This time for real ;-)) at
http://home.netsurf.de/martin.jost/

What still needs to be done is:
- More checks
- Accelerator Keys (These are mostly a mess right now)
- Spell-Checking
- Fill up the last missing translations (see below)
- Some oddities with the messages in Mahogany itself need to be adressed. (see below)

Missing translations

The still missing translations are mostly caused by a few problems how to translate
some words.
If someone has an idea for those please tell me !
[I'll send a second mail with all of those problems]

away-mode  => Abwesend ? "Niemand da" ? "Benutzer abwesend" ?
bounce (to bounce a message) => ????
threading (message threading) => verketten ? anordnen ? gruppieren ?
thread =>  Kette ? Unterhaltung ? Gedankengang ?
passphrase (PGP Passphrase) => Zaubersatz ? Passsatz ???? Schlselsatz ????

Problems with and suggestions for Mahogany itself

The translation showed some problems with the original messages, or
places, where (IHMO) improvements are possible.
This is:

"Real" errors: --------------------------------------------------

# blank after(%s == strerror()) missing.
# Position of %s sensible ?
# Proposal: "Failed to correct the directory access rights (%s),..."
#: classes/Profile.cpp:867
msgid "Failed to correct the directory access (%s)rights, please do it manually and
restart the program!"

# conitnue ???
#: modules/Migrate.cpp:1189
msgid ""
"\n"
"\n"
"Please press \"Next\" to conitnue, \"Back\" to\n"

# Blank before %s missing ??
#: PGPClickInfo.h:103
msgid "Good PGP signature%s"

# Blank before %s missing ??
#: PGPClickInfo.h:114
msgid "Expired PGP signature%s"

# Blank before %s missing ??
#: PGPClickInfo.h:136
msgid "Bad PGP signature%s"
^
# Blank before %s missing ???
#: PGPClickInfo.h:148
msgid "PGP public key not found%s"

Un-translatable messages: --------------------------------------------------
Some messages are (nearly) un-translatable, due to the way they are build.
Mostly this is due to the fact, that the message is build up from separate pieces.
This forces a particular ordering of the parts in the translated sentence too.
While German is quite flexible in this respect, some sentences get real strange...
(And some just get nonsense...)
If possible, please write full sentences each time for the sake of the translators !

# First %s: 'part' || ''
#: classes/MessageView.cpp:2807
msgid ""
"The selected message%s is %u Kbytes long which is more than the current threshold of
%d Kbytes.\n"
"\n"
"Do you still want to download it?"

In German:
Der gewhlte Teil der Nachricht ...
Die gewhlte Nachricht ...
===--- note the difference !

# INBOX (Name of folder in the tree) can't be translated ??
#: gui/wxFolderTree.cpp:1904
msgid "INBOX folder is a special folder used by the mail system and can not be
renamed."

# "failed to (save|retrieve) remote configuration (to|from) 'Foldername'."
# 'to' (%s Nr. 2) shows up three times !
# it must be translated as 'an' twice and as 'in' here
# Das (Holen/Speichern) der Konfiguration (aus/in) %s ist gescheitert
#                                         (von/an)
#
#: gui/wxOptionsDlg.cpp:3630
msgid "Failed to %s remote configuration %s '%s'."

# Successfully (saved|retrieved) remote configuration (to|from) 'Foldername'.
# problem similar to the one above
#: gui/wxOptionsDlg.cpp:3637
msgid "Successfully %s remote configuration %s '%s'."

# CANCEL-Button for this dialog is in English and doesn't seem to change
#: util/upgrade.cpp:749
msgid ""
"Welcome to Mahogany!\n"
"\n"

All the drop-down list entries in the filter dialog didn't get translated
The rest of the dialog is translated.
(I checked the source, to see that I didn't mess with the msgid for the translations)

"All available templates" (wxTemplateDialog.cpp)
isn't even listed in de.po (_() missing) - and thus stays untranslated in the GUI

Possible errors: --------------------------------------------------
# supposed => supported ????
#: modules/TextViewer.cpp:475
msgid "Sorry, printing is not supposed by the text viewer.\n"
"Please change to another viewer to print this message."

# 'any of _the_ folders' ?
#: gui/wxFolderView.cpp:3878
msgid "You can now open any of folders on the IMAP server '%s'"

# Why # in front of a %s ?
# %s seems to be the name of the part ?!
#: classes/MessageView.cpp:1693
msgid "Skipping the empty MIME part #%s."

# mail folder -> mailbox ?
# My impression (and the way I translated) is that:
# folder == GUI ("logical" container for the messages)
# mailbox == IMAP/local file ("physical" container for the messages)
# There are several examples, where this seems to be mixed up in Mahogany
#: gui/wxFolderView.cpp:4709
msgid "Closing folder '%s' because the underlying mail folder was deleted."

# Problem in Code ? Value for %ld seems to be one off ???
# (1 to 2 for a folder containing one message)
#, c-format
msgid "Enter the number of the message to go to, from 1 to %ld"

proposals --------------------------------------------------

# "waytoo long" Blank missing ??
# no ! Added to 'way ' But is confusing !
# (Is translatable in German that way, but may cause problem in other languages)^
#: classes/ComposeTemplate.cpp:1301
msgid "Your signature is %stoo long: it should not be more than %d lines."

# Make local mailboxname separately translatable ?
# (e.g. prepend '_' (_drafts))
#
# reason:
# There are only 7bit ASCII allowed for mailbox-files.
# Drafts => Entwrfe (I choose "Entwuerfe" for now)
# Contains a Umlaut, and except the funny sounding "Rohfassungen" I know
# of no other possible translation.
# (Same problem with other mailbox-names, but the German version is not affected)
#: gui/wxComposeView.cpp:4067
msgid "Drafts"

# Please insert the Directory-Name by using %s
# Appending it leads to a rather funny German translation
#: gui/wxMApp.cpp:1229
msgid "Help files not found in the directory '"

# "unattended" and "away"-mode are used both for the same thing ?
#: gui/wxMApp.cpp:1843
msgid "Mahogany is now in unattended mode"

# This also applies to messages once in the Drafts folder
# which have been sent by now. This announcement to remove all deleted
# messages from the folder Drafts sounds astonishing.
# ("No, I don't want my drafts deleted !")
#: gui/wxMDialogs.cpp:2352
msgid "Do you want to expunge all deleted messages\n"
"in folder '%s'?"

Further question to the above:
I've configured M to use the Trash-Folder. But "expired" drafts are _marked_
as deleted nevertheless. (Instead of moved to the Trash). This leads to
the above message later on.

# Doesn't that belong in the 'configure' menu ??
# (I searched it there)
# Paper-format isn't saved
#
# Using it, spits out error messages:
# Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 90 (gdk_draw_rectangle): assertion `gc !=
NULL' failed.
# Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkgc.c: line 689 (gdk_gc_set_clip_rectangle): assertion `gc
!= NULL' failed.
#
#: gui/wxMenuDefs.cpp:239
msgid "Configure page setup"

==================
The four following strings belong to one proposal:

# too wordy
# (together with contents of the box, doubling of "viewer";
# the GUI makes it clear, that this is a selection)
#: gui/wxFolderView.cpp:1147
msgid "Select the &viewer to use: " => "Selected viewer:"

#: modules/HtmlViewer.cpp:494
msgid "HTML message viewer" => "HTML"

#: modules/LayoutViewer.cpp:279
msgid "Default message viewer" "Default"

#: modules/TextViewer.cpp:368
msgid "Text only message viewer" => "Text only"

So this gives:

"Selected viewer:"  [HTML]
                    [Default]
                    [Text only]

(I translated it that way - looks reasonable)
==================

For the identities drop-down-list, there is the "same problem", the other way round.
I would like a (translatable) string "Selected Identity" in front of the
drop-down-list.

Martin

P.S.:
Please let me know, if I should feed some of these in the bug tracker !
