While converting from MSWindows to Linux, I wrote a Perl script (see M-config.zip in http://home.ix.netcom.com/~mchase/zip/) to extract the configuration from the MSWindows registry and write it to a config file. I then moved my mailboxes to a filesystem visible from both MSWindows and Linux. I had to hand-modify the file specifications and maintain separate config files, but both versions were able to use all the same mailboxes and other files.
