 What could really stop it from working is if that folder used SSL. It
would be impossible for any program to work as a proxy for SSL connection.

 If it uses SSL, then it either uses a different port (995) or does
STARTTLS and the communication is encrypted and authenticated, so even if
it goes to port 110 the proxy can't work.

 In any case, this is easy to check by using any packet sniffer. Ethereal
works under Windows, I believe and if not there are surely others.
