I think we have to accept that there is a competition. In the world of today, one who do not compete, do not exist. Yes, the honesty with which the knights of Free software come forward is a strength. We dont suppress the weakness. But acknowledging weakness is not all. There must be (and there is) a constant effort to correct the weakness. I think it is time to target the home user, who is more concerned of the cute colours on the desktop and may be an office package and yes, games and fun. Popularity of windows is not just its use by corporate giants but the use by the home user. We must be able to bring in more and more people to use the new free OS... see that it becomes more and more simple to use.. more and more fun to use.... > What we have to do now is to inform others about the > availability these > and much more softwares.. > *****We cannot afford an advertisement in news > papers etc. So we have > spread the message mouth to mouth*******. I agree... But We are having the mouths.. but where are the ears. We have to now do something by which we can have ears to listen to our mouths. Demos, exhibitions, seminars, etc. must be organised by the group according to me. Yes, this means expense. We have to find the funds and also keep the expense to the minimum. I would suggest that the group must now plan a small programme and conduct it atleast on an experimental basis. I would recommend a small exhibition kind of thing, targeting the small user. Exhibiting the office packages, having a few demos, some games and all that lighter side of linux, along with installation demos, a small but effective seminar, both on the technology and the philosophy of linux... I was just airing my view... the discussion may be kept alive... > PS. I request ilug-cochin to arrange another demo > of GNU/Linux > installation if 5-10 people need it. I agree.. may be we can have a scheme of having an opportunity to install linux and work on it in every meeting. HARI __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
