Dear ILUG
Doing projects is a wonderful thing. But first ,please state an objective.
I assume it to be 'FUND RAISING".
Makin a malayal distro is a gr8 idea and a challengin one.But,first -How
is making a linux distribution going to help making funds?? I dont knw much
abt the GPL licen. but doesnt it mean FREE in a nutshell. or Do we have any
ideas lik the Redhat..etc.Plz let knw.
SOME STUPID IDEAS:
1. why dont we make ourself some product..an unique one..and offer services
for it. I dont knw, makin money with linux products is a good idea with the
GPL license around.We could try FREE BSD based products then.
Like ,do we have a Linux equivalent for 'TALLY'. If thr isnt one..why
dont we make one.
( cld we put the malayal distro under here..)
2. We could offer linux based services or linux solutions as per client
requirements. This would mean a lot of interation with clients and lot of
time and lot of trust from the client side. But time is somethin we seldom
have. So we could do this , we could have more than one person workin on a
particular part..thn if one is busy..the othr cld as well cont with tht
part..and whn the othr is busy..so on.
Gettin clients to trust us..is goin to be diffcult. Why dont we all
start a
firm as such and give it a name and all...and do projects.Any ideas???
3.is web hostin a good idea??? Linux servers are so famous...
4. Who's the moderator? The project leader??? Who's in charge of puttin it
all together..guiding..
5. Please do place a reward..a small one would do for evry1 that contributes
into the project. Would help a lot of students to earn some pocket money
too. A small percentage of the final $$$ shld go to each ppl who contributes
to the devlopmnt.
..........LETs DO IT.But once we start of ..thr shld b no stoppin in betwn.
Dont worry, if some1 is unable to continue for some reasons...thr shld
always be som1 to take his place. So make a list of all those ppl who are
intrstd.
Put me in- I an good in programmin only - c,c++,assembly(embedded
stuff)..and littl bit of java and shell scriptin.Have used Qt. Ready to
learn any programmin stuff..or anythin. But I wont be free for long..I got
to start work soon and dont knw wot my schedule is gointa be.But i cld help
as much as I can.
