Actually my own fault. Aftr installation of the driver , you hav to run thz
program-
/usr/sbin/slmodemd --country=INDIA /dev/slusb0

I had run the program, but used to stop it b4 tryin out the dialing
programs.

In the manufactures words:
"When 'slmodemd' is running this creates PTY (pseudo-terminal) to
   emulate modem port device, also this creates symbolic link
   like '/dev/ttySL0' (shown at startup)."

So this has to b runnin inorder to use /dev/ttySL0. i figured tht out prtty
late.
Anyway, am happy tht I could learn a lot of new things. Hurrrrrrrrrrrray.
