I can understand your thoughts Arun. These are the kind of thoughts even I used to have once. Do you know that working on Linux tody is more easier than working in other OS. KDE is one excellent GUI for everything. And about squid and all that. hehehe configuring that is one of the easiest things to do on a linux box. And ones configured there is nothing to do. Sit back and relax. Only problem would be logs. But cafes are not MNC's their logs will not have to be rotated atleast for a year.
About awareness is another issue. One cannot setup and leave things like that. We would have to provide them the necessary tutorials on using Linux too. But I think distros like Mandrake work almost like M$ OS. But I would advice on a debian based OS like the light weight UBUNTU. Besides the present scene of Linux is not like 6 months back. I'v never seen a machine having a graphics problem after out of the box installation for almost 3 months now. But laptops yes can create some nasty probs. I dont mind giving remote support to anybody asking. All a support guy would need is a SSH server running on the server. SSH is a remote log in mechanism where in its more secure than telnet. If configuring servers are difficult just ask somebody to install an OS on the server and provide Internet connection to it. Then somebody with sufficient knowledge can remotely configure the required services. So we should look at all the possibilities. Theres always a way in Linux.. Sharing knowledge is power... --- Arun Thomas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi, > > Dont take thsi as a ctitic. Just wanted you to > check the practical side of implementing this in > cafes too.
