dear sameer,
H.E.H.M. SCHOOL,MATTANCHERY June 2007
Computer Lab( all desktops donated by NEST,INFOSYS)
There were 7 PCs.Very old systems.Like Celeron300,PII.
One new PC. A Celeron D Acer.
Computer teacher asked me to repair the old systems and bring it to a
working state so that we can install IT at School GNU/Linux on each of
them.There was a network switch(8 Port 10/100 Mbps).But they were not
using it.Teacher and HM wanted to upgrade all the old systems. But the
funds were very limited.
Upgradation will cost approx. Rs.70,000 plus the cost of a
UPS(supporting 8 PCs).Total approx Rs.85,000.00.
Suggested LTSP.
Upgraded the new Acer Desktop memory. It was having 256MB RAM.Added 1GB
RAM MODULE.
Installed Compex NICs with PXE boot ROMs in clients.
Installed IT at School GNU/Linux on ACER Celeron D(Used as server).
Installed LTSP4.2
Cabling done.
Now all the 7 (diskless no CDROM drive,Floppy drive,HDD)clients can run
IT at School GNU/Linux.
Only one 500VA ups was used.i.e. for the Server.
Total cost : approx Rs. 8,000.00
working fine for the past one year!!

regards
manoj
