Hi Azad,

Sorry for the poor response from this group. I understand the difficulties
of changing over to free software, I have been through that myself. I'll try
to help you as much as I can.

First though, it would be much better if you could upgrade to a newer
version of Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.10, called the 'Intrepid Ibex', is the latest
release, and you should be able to upgrade your 7.04 to 8.10 without
re-installing the OS. The steps for doing this are as follows..

* Open up a terminal... I'm assuming you're using gnome, so go to
Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal
* Type "  update-manager -d  " (without quotes)
* The window will show that a new upgrade is available, and you can click
the button to upgrade.
* Ubuntu will ask for your password, and then proceed to download and
upgrade to 8.10. This will take some time, depending on your internet
connection speed.

Once you have done this, please post your results, and I'll guide you
through the rest. If you're not able to do this, let me know, and we'll try
to configure your system with 7.04 itself. It is easily possible to play
audio and video files by installing a few packages. I'm sorry that this
group can have a detailed discussion on discouraging n00bs than actually
posting some sensible instructions. This is not directed at anyone, it's
just sad.
