Only if the MTA in question is receiving a VERPed recipient address. Mailman will never generate that kind of address (although users could subscribe with addresses of that form, but this is a separate matter), and will handle the generation of the VERPed envelope sender address itself.
The only time the VERPed address comes into play is if there is a bounce generated to the envelope sender address that is created by Mailman, and even then it's just a matter of having the MTA pass everything it gets to mailman.
I'm not familiar with the various common MTAs current OTB configuration. When last I checked (year+ ago) most didn't enable plus addressing support by default.
You might want to check again. I haven't seen any such problems on the Mailman lists I've been managing for a couple of years.
