Almost.  The delivery MTA in question has to recognise that 

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

is really the same as:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and hand off appropriately.  To do this the target MTA requires plus
addressing support.  Heck, that generic ability to distinguish and do
that mapping is the definition of "plus addressing support in an MTA".
