So whilst the distribution group configuration is deliberate (and very common in large corporate Exchange environments), there’s a basic operational mistake by the sender - they’ve either managed to do the rare trick of sending From: the DG’s email address, or they’ve set the Reply-To: header to reply to the DG. (it could also be done by an outbound transport rule, I know).
