Here's why: When Mailplane is offline, it isn't able to access Google to authenticate your Gmail credentials so it tries to load the Inbox directly. Even if all cookies are deleted, Mailplane is still able to load the inbox without password entry. It's the way Google has designed offline support. You can try it in Safari: - Open Safari - Do Safari->Empty Cache - Go to Preferences/Security and delete all cookies - Go offline - Open http://mail.google.com/mail/ - You'll be asked for your email address (no password requirered) - Safari will load you inbox In short.
