Actually, it is somewhat better in build 1098. Right now, of course,
it's working fine—probably because I'm trying to replicate it to
check :P

I have the latest version of Google Gears, the preference is enabled,
it works fine in Safari, and I'm running Safari 4 beta. I had the same
problems with Safari 3, which is one of the reasons I tried the beta
to begin with.

I'll post again the next time I have trouble. I haven't done the
offline reinstall at all, but I'll give it a try if needed.
