I'm experiencing these issues as well, and I've noticed that my CPUs
are very active when this is occurring. If I launch Activity Monitor
while this is happening, I can see the process "mds" being very
active, doing work. I believe "mds" is "metadata service", and is
related to Spotlight. When mds calms down, the problem doesn't seem to
occur. So there appears to be a connection.
