Odd case here. I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 (Build 10B504), using the custom Gears package available on the website. However, Google Gears won't work in Mailplane. There's more to it though.
Google Gears will work in Fluid Single-Site-Browser that I have setup. After allowing Google Gears to work Gmail, Mailplane will sit that the "Finishing offline installation" for quite a while. After it eventually fails it says: "Failed to load required resources. Failed to enable local store." Another use case. I have setup Offline functionality in Fluid, and it's working great. I give Mailplane another go without clearing out Gears. Upon launching, it gives the "synchronizing" icon, and it will just sit there and spin. On and on, and never starts working.
