I've had this problem in 2.1.1 and it persists in 2.1.2. When switching between my two main Gmail accounts (each has ~3 gig of email), Mailplane will hang and timeout.
I've turned Google Labs off and have also disabled Google Gears, but it still happens several times a day - not always, but consistently enough to be troublesome. When it times out from loading, the standard(?) page is displayed that suggests that one "Try reloading the page" (this sometimes works), "Disable Labs and try again", or "Try basic HTML view".
