Is this particular link a LinkedIn link?  If so, this is due to LinkedIn 
buying Rapportive.  They have changed the way links can be opened.  The 
developer was looking for a way to force them open in the browser and not 
within Mailplane, but it could take a bit of time.   The work around for 
that is to disable Rapportive, which will force them in the browser for the 
time being.
