I have to agree with Phillip. This ties into the discussion of
/etc/opt/csw vs /opt/csw/etc somewhat. PID files should go in /var/run.
Even if there are perceived namespace collisions, how often would you run,
for example, Sun's bundled sendmail and CSW's sendmail at the same time?
